The availability of water for crop production is one of the major limiting factors to food production worldwide. To cope with the increasing water shortage, it is necessary to adopt effective water saving agricultural strategies.

The main goals of this research are:

Qualify and infer the effects of partial root zone drying, drip irrigation, strip tillage, ridge tillage, and white polythene and rice husks mulches on soil water distribution, water use, growth, photosynthesis rate, stomatal conductance, transpiration rate, yield and quality of spider plant and Ethiopian Mustard.

Develop a model describing root growth, leaf area development and dry matter partitioning as model input parameters for planning and evaluation and ultimately develop improved irrigation strategies based on model results and experts’ preferences
