Phytomedicine

Phytomedicine deals with the effects of viruses, fungi and arthropods on plants. The manifold interrelationships between plants and harmful and beneficial organisms are investigated using classical as well as molecular biological and behaviour-ecological methods. In addition to the identification and strengthening of plant-own defence systems, the use of natural antagonists and bio-pesticides in biological pest control is favoured. Resulting plant protection strategies are developed for greenhouse and field cultivation and include not only forecasting methods but also prevention and intervention measures.
